GearHedd — Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 4, 2026 Last updated: June 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how GearHedd LLC ("GearHedd," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information about you when you use the GearHedd website at gearhedd.com and related services (the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. This Policy is part of and incorporated into our Terms of Service.
1. A Quick Summary
- We collect the information you give us (like your email, profile, and the vehicle builds you log), plus some basic technical information needed to run the Service.
- We use it to provide and improve the Service, to power the social features you choose to use, and to keep things secure.
- You decide what's public. Builds and profiles are private until you make them public. Some information (like a VIN or license plate) carries real-world risk if published — that choice is yours.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- You can access, update, or delete your information, including by deleting your account.
This summary is for convenience only; the full Policy below controls.
2. Information We Collect
a. Information you provide directly:
- Account information: your email address and password (passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored in hashed form — we do not see your plain-text password), and your chosen handle/username.
- Profile information: display name, bio, location, profile and cover photos, "wrenching since," shop affiliation, interests/skills tags, and any social or website links you add.
- Vehicle and build information: vehicle year, make, model, trim, nickname, mileage, color, specifications, and — only if you choose to enter them — sensitive identifiers like your VIN and license plate, as well as service records, modifications, parts lists, prices and cost figures, notes, and photos you upload.
- Social activity: the accounts you follow, the builds you watch, and similar interactions.
- Communications: information you provide when you contact us (e.g., support emails).
b. Information collected automatically:
- Usage and device data: basic information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages or features used, and timestamps, collected through standard web server logs and similar technologies, used to operate and secure the Service.
- Local storage / cookies: we use browser local storage and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to remember preferences (for example, dismissing an onboarding card or remembering your last-viewed vehicle). We do not use these for cross-site advertising. See Section 8.
c. Information from third parties:
- We currently use email-and-password sign-in only. If we add third-party sign-in (such as Google or Apple) in the future, we may receive limited profile information from that provider as permitted by your settings with them, and we will update this Policy.
We do not intentionally collect special categories of sensitive personal data, and we ask that you not submit any (such as health, biometric, or government ID information) through the Service.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- create and manage your account and provide the Service;
- store, organize, and display your builds, records, and photos to you;
- power features you choose to use, such as public build pages, profiles, following/watching, feeds, search, and link previews — according to your sharing and privacy settings;
- communicate with you, including account, security, and service-related messages, and (where permitted) updates about the Service;
- maintain the security and integrity of the Service, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms;
- understand and improve how the Service is used; and
- comply with legal obligations and protect our legal rights.
4. Public Information and Your Choices
GearHedd includes social and sharing features. You control what is public.
- Vehicles and profiles are private by default until you make them public.
- When you make a vehicle or profile public, the information you've allowed to be shown may be viewable by anyone, including people without a GearHedd account; may be indexed by search engines; and may appear in link previews when a link is shared.
- You can choose, per vehicle, what is shown publicly — including whether to display part prices, spend totals, license plate, VIN, and which sections (tabs) are visible.
- Sensitive identifiers (VIN, license plate, location, photos): publishing these carries real-world risk (for example, vehicle cloning, fraudulent registration, theft targeting, or unwanted contact). We keep VIN off by default and warn you, but the decision and responsibility to publish are yours. Do not publish another person's information without their permission.
You can change your sharing settings or make content private again at any time, though copies that others have already saved or that have been cached or indexed by third parties (such as search engines) may persist outside our control.
5. How We Share Information
We share information only as described here. We do not sell your personal information.
- According to your settings: public content is shared with other users and the public as you direct.
- Service providers (processors): we use trusted third parties to operate the Service, who may process information on our behalf under contractual obligations to protect it. These currently include:
- Supabase — database hosting, user authentication, file/photo storage, and transactional email (e.g., sign-up confirmation).
- Netlify — website hosting and content delivery.
- Affiliate and third-party links: the Service may contain affiliate links. If you click them, the destination is operated by a third party under its own privacy policy; we do not share your account data with affiliates simply because you browse the Service.
- Legal and safety: we may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to enforce our Terms; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of GearHedd, our users, or others.
- Business transfers: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
- With your consent: in any other case, with your direction or consent.
6. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward as needed to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete content or your account, we delete or de-identify the associated personal information within a reasonable period, except for limited copies retained in routine backups or as required by law. Content you shared publicly that others saved, or that was cached or indexed by third parties, may persist outside our control.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including access controls and reliance on reputable infrastructure providers. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us at hello@gearhedd.com.
8. Cookies and Local Storage
We use cookies, browser local storage, and similar technologies that are necessary to operate the Service — for example, to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences. Because we currently use these only for essential functionality and not for third-party advertising, you can typically control them through your browser settings, but disabling them may break parts of the Service. If we add analytics or advertising technologies in the future, we will update this Policy and provide any required choices.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at hello@gearhedd.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it. Users who are minors in their jurisdiction should use the Service only with parental or guardian involvement, as described in our Terms.
10. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information. Regardless of location, you can:
- Access and update most of your information directly in the Service (your profile, vehicles, and sharing settings).
- Make content private or delete individual builds, photos, or records at any time.
- Delete your account, which removes your profile and associated personal content from the Service, subject to the retention exceptions in Section 6. To delete your account or request deletion, contact us at hello@gearhedd.com.
- Opt out of non-essential emails by following the unsubscribe instructions or contacting us. We may still send essential account and security messages.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): You may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to request deletion or correction; and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law.
EU/UK/EEA residents (GDPR/UK GDPR): You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing, and to data portability, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We process your information to perform our contract with you (providing the Service), to pursue our legitimate interests (operating and securing the Service), to comply with legal obligations, and/or based on your consent where applicable.
To exercise any right, contact us at hello@gearhedd.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
11. International Users and Data Transfers
GearHedd is operated from the United States, and our service providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
12. Third-Party Sites and Services
The Service may link to third-party websites, merchants, and products (including affiliate links). This Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review the privacy policy of any third-party site before providing your information.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you (for example, by posting the updated Policy with a new "Last updated" date or by notice in the Service). Changes are effective when posted. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
